CENSUS RETURNS.

DOMINION’S POPULATION. STILL MOVING NORTHWARDS. (BY TELEGRAPH—PREBS ASSOCIATION.) W FLUNG TON, June 2. The Hon. It. F. Bollard states that the census results, so far, give a total population of 1,227,000, an increase of 126,500 for the areas completed. The figures show that the population is still moving northward. Out of the increase mentioned, the North Island claims 87,800 and the South 38,700 All provinces show gains; Auckland 51,600 and Wellington 27,600 are the largest gainers. The urban increase totals 105,800 and the country and lesser town districts 10,700. The latest figures are: Dunedin city 67,541. an increase of 9467; Hastings 10,096, an increase of 975; Egmont County 3023, an increase of 299.
