The Portuguese President (Senor Manoel Gomez) has resigned for a reason at present not announced, but the situation was recently complicated by the action of the Confederation of Labour in pieparing to oppose any attempt to establish a military dictatorship. On the contrary, the revolutionary leaders at the beginning expressed a. desire to the President that the new Government be formed outside political jiarties. The troops in the northern and southern districts supporting General Gomez da Costa are marching on Lisbon, and will encamp on the outskirts of the city pending the arrival of the general, —lieu ter.
