SAFEGUARDING SUNDAY
METHODISTS’ APPEAL. TO AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENTS LABOUR ON THE SABBATH. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 10.40 a.m. to-day. BRISBANE, June 2. The General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia passed a resolution appealin'.; to all members, of the national and local governments to safeguard Sunday against all unnecessary and harmful encroachments upon its * distinctive character, in particular against the growing practice of opening shops, organising sports, extending the amount of Sunday labour, and generally to co-operate , with the efforts o,f thoughtful and conscientious citizens in. the defenoe of institutions which are of unique value and necessary for the spiritual and moral culture of mankind.
The conference also decided to send fraternal greetings to the Methodist Church in New Zealand and in other countries.
