From National Park to Horopito residents have been able to discern huge .stones rolling from the crater. At night gusts of flame have been, seen, and earth tremors felt at Raetihi. The glow from the eruption is plainly seen at Oliakune and Rangata.ua. Columns of smoke have been observed from, over the .side of Alt. Kiu.ape.hu. Elderly Maoris .state that conditions are similar to those previous to the Tarawera eruptions.
