HAWERA HOSPITAL BOARD.
AtONTHLY AIEETING. Later business at yesterday’s meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board! whs dealt with as follows: — The Medical Superintendent forwarded ia Hist of new instruments which should be purchased in order that- the new building would be fully equipped. ■—Held over for committee consideration. Messrs Duffi'U and Gibson, architects for the new hospital, reported that steady fprogresis was being made with the works, the following certificates having been issued: Main contract, to Mr. Young, £2000; previous capitals, £53,7i10; total to date £55,715; heating contract: Smart Bros. £22OS; electrical installation contract, Morrison and Co. £544; total, £58,467. Tire letter continued that the question of fitting up the various departments and rooms had become a, very vital one and the firm asked for an interview with, the hoard. Mr. Duff ill waited on the board and suggested the appointment of a. special committee to meet the architects on the works. Once a month was not sufficient to meet the board. The Chairman, Messrs Washer, Larcom and Wills were appointed to a special committee, with power to act, to meet- the architects. A circular from the Hospital Boards' Association was -received regarding the provision of accommodation for tubercular cases, which —on account of dirty and other objectionable habits —were undesirable in the ordinary institutions, but nevertheless a -menace if left ito move among the -general public.—The secretary stated that no oases of this nature had .been received m Hawera, and that- -a hut had been provided at Trentham to cover such requirements. A donation of £5 Ss from the Hawera Trotting Club was received "with thianks.
