N.Z. ALLIANCE DEPUTATION. MR COATES PROPOSES A ' CONEERRENCE. (BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 7. A deputation from the New Zealand Alliance waited on the Prime Master (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) and the Attorney-General (the Hon. \V. Downie Stewart) to-day to place before them a number of matters dealing with licensing legislation. Various speakers expressed opposition to any extension of time between the licensing polls, • or any alteration in the law which now provides that a licensing noli shall be taken on the day of the 'general election. _ It also opposed any increase in facilities for additional drinking, and asked that tbo ballot paper should be altered to contain two issues only. In replying, the Prime Minister stated that a Licensing Bill was being drafted for presentation to Parliament this session, and suggested; tlyit representatives of the parties interested in the licensing question should meet in conference with the Governmerit to seo on what points at issuo a. common agreement could he arrived at with a view to improving the licensing laws. Mr. Coates stressed the urgency of holding the conference without delay, in view of the early approach of the session
