SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Manaia. School Committee was- held on Thursday, at W’hich there were present: Messrs Dakers (chairman), Spooner, Sadler, Rangi Huna, Abbott, Wells, Andrew’s, Parry (treasurer), Chisnall (secretary). The chairman briefly welcomed the new’ members to the committee. The following resolutions were carried: That the meetings of committee be held on the second Monday in the month instead of second Friday, as previously arranged. That the seci’etary and- treasurer be a committee to go into the question of subsidies with the late secretary.

That a chip heater he obtained .for boiling water for cocoa to be supplied to children during the winter months. That the Education Board be written to asking for an alteration of school hours, as recommended by the householders at the annual meeting. x The following remit is to he forwarded to the School Committees’ Association : That in order to 'achieve the desire of the Education Board, i.e., that competitive sport be encouraged in schools, some financial assistance should be given to enable children to be conveyed and participate in sports. Messrs Parry and "Wells were appointed a visiting committee for the month. Accounts amounting to £l7 12s 8d W’ere passed for payment. W.E.A. In spite of the boisterous weather, a large class attended the weekly meeting of the W.E.A., held in the High School on Tuesday night, when the tutor gave a very interesting lecture on the beginning of the unemployment problem. It spoke volumes for Mr A. T. C. Bvotherton’s ability that lie maintained the interest of such a large class, and those who have not attended any of the lectures should make a point of doing so. Visitors are always welcome.
