FIFTY YEARS OF FOOTBALL

One of the outstanding figures in the football world has been removed by the recent death of Mr John Lewis, the famous football legislator and vicepresident of the English Football Association. Mr Lewis was one of the founders of Blackburn Rovers 51 years ago, and was a member of the first eleA r en which the club put into the field and which AA’ent through its first season Avithout a defeat. He Avas a referee for over a quarter of a century, and he had charge of the Football Association teams which recently toured South Africa and Australia without meeting Avith a single reverse. In many ways Mr LeAvis helped to make football history. He Avas referee at the first Cup Final at the Crystal Palace in 1895, and was a member of the Football Association Council from 1901 onwards, being on the ConsultatWe Committee, the International Selection Committee, and the Rules Revision Committee.
