HOCKEY.

IN HAWERA. While the Hawera Ladies' Hockey Club has flourished pretty well and consistently, the men's club since 1923 has been defunct, though there was a credit balance and a great record behind the club. It is good to see that an effort was at last made to revive, at a meeting last Thursday, the old club, and that not only was the club re-formed, but arrangements made for practice matches with a view to competitions. It is hoped that all hockey enthusiasts will rally round and give all the help they possibly can. A fine sport deserves well of its supporters and the public.

THE INDIAN TEAM. It seems, somewhat strange that the Sikh hockey team, composed as it is of men who, in the event of war, serve as part of the British army, and whose comrades were a loyal unit in the Great War, is not allowed to come to New Zealand Avithout the Government demanding a deposit on behalf of each man. It is as though they were ordinary immigrants instead of an invited team. The latest word convoys the tidings that the team has sailed and comprises four British officers, one native officer, and twelve native other ranks. It was intended to send no native officers, but a natWe officer in charge of the Sikhs has now been added to the party.
