SOCCER CONCERT A well-filled hall rewarded the efforts of the promoters of the concert on .behalf of the local soccer club held on Friday night. No pains had been spared to ensure a good programme, and the concert was thoroughly enjoyed by all. This was the first occasion on which the newly-erected stage was used, and both performers and audience agreed that it was a great improvement on conditions previously obtaining. Mr W. Bradford presided, and on behalf of the club, thanked all who had assisted to make the concert the success it was.
A word of praise is due to Mr H.' Roberts, the secretary of the club, who left no stone unturned to make the affair, thoroughly enjoyable for all. I The programme was as follows: —Concerted number, Laie Hawaiians; song, Mrs Grahamine (Okaiawa); Highland dance, Miss Micheson; recitation, Mrs Twaddle (Hawera); song, Miss Yorke; song, Mr Elkington; dance (Hula Hula), Hawaiians; monologue, Air Hardenberg ; Sword Dance, Miss Micheson; recitation, Mr Herkund; duet, Misses Oekenden; recitation, Mrs Twaddle (Hawera); song, Mr Hardenberg; chorus, Laie Hawaiians.
The club is to be commended on its enterprise, which was rewarded by a considerable sum being added to Its funds. The amount raised will be very useful and will enable the outfits for the players to be secured without further drawing on the ordinary funds. THE DANCE.
After the concert the hall was cleared and a very enjoyable dance followed. The floor was in good order and the music—was provided. Dy Mrs Bradford (Xiiano) and Mr Elkington (cornet). The M.’sC. were Messts Bradford (2) and Martin. AUROA TEAM. The Auroa soccer team will play Manaia at Manaia on Wednesday next. SCHOOL CONCERT.
The next event on the programme will be the school concert on Friday, when the school minstrel troupe will make its bow to an Auroa audience. The children have other attractive items as well in course of training, and a pleasant evening is assured to all who take an interest in the school, and a dance will follow the concert.
During the evening opportunity will be taken to present the swimming certificates and prizes won by the children in connection with the competitions promoted by the Auroa branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union.
