SOUTH TARANAKI AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE! MEETING

A meeting of the executive committee of the South Taranaki Automohi'e Association was held last evening. There were presen ti: Messrs L. 0. Hooker (in the chair), G. J. Bay-lev, E. P. Cox, W. A. Spragg, J. A. Duff'd. P. O’Dea, W. G. Walk-ley (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. O’Callaghan and S. O. Tonks.

A letter received from the Egmont County Council expressed appreciation of the work of the association in providing road signs.

CLUB RUN. Referring to the .proposed club run, the secretary explained that the difference in the day of the weekly halfholiday at Hawera and Eltham and Stratford nresented some difficulty in arranging a suitable week day. It had been suggested that a Sunday trip to Dawson Falls be organised. The chairman favoured the suggestion. He also pointed out that a previous suggestion had been made that the Wanganui Association .should he invited to join in a run to the Falls. Such, trips tended to popularise the association among motorists. During a round table discussion, il was mentioned that a very favourable opportunity for arranging a run would be during the forthcoming Winter Show week, and it was intimated that an outing would then be organised. lii the- iii-eivnlim-e. it was cte-ei-clod. to organise a run to’the mountain on Sunday, May 9, leaving Hawera at I p.m.*, and that the president (Dr. W. M. Thomson) be requested to deliver an address dealing with the activities of the association during the afternoon.

DISTRICT PUBTJCTTY URGED. A letter received from the Wanganui association asked for consideration of a proposal foir the publication by the North Island Union of a road guide \o the North Island. The Wanganui Association was prepared to take 800 to 1000 copies at the estimated price of approximately Is 6d a copy, and other associations were asked to indicate their views oil the proposal and the number of copies which would bo likely to be demanded. Tile secretary gave the opinion that such a publication could be dealt with more favourably by private enterprise, and the motor associations should cooperate in making information available for such guides. The chairman agreed, and the action of the secretary in rep'ying to the letter in these terms was approved. Referring further to the subject of tlio association’s, assisting in furnishing information concerning the features in their respective areas, he suggested that the Government Publicity Department, the Tourist Department, and. the Railway Department should be approached with an offer to co-operate in supplying information which would help to advertise district attractions and the facilities for visitingx them. He pointed out tuafc the public departments were willing- to circulate suitable advertising matter and the associations could greatly assist in placing facts at the disposal of the officials. The secretary was authorised to communicate with the Government Publicity. Railway and Tourist Departments, giving details of the attractions to tourists offered iji South Taranaki and the means of access. BOUNDARIES.

The secretary intimated that finality bad not been reached regarding the boundaries between the South and North Taranaki Associations.

The previous negotiations proposing that the Rugby Road on tlie Stratford side of the mountain and the Cape Road, on the coast, should form the boundary were received, and the secretary pointed out that the S.T.A A. signs bad been placid as far as Okato. ft was decided to communicate with the North Taranaki Association, giving a ire,sumo of previous interviews, and intimate that _the South Taranaki Association wished the roads mentioned to be declared as the boundary.
