KAPONGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

WIRELESS CONCERTS. Some good wireless receptions on Sunday evening arc reported by Mr A. E. Moss. The Anzac service of the Duuedin Central Mission was enjoyed by a few local residents, the lament played by the Highlanders 7 band and the cornet “Revielle” and “Last Post" being very clearly received. After the usual hours of service, the Anglican' Church at North Sydney was picked up, and up to a late hour several Kapongaites were in close touch with the Australian stations—Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The long spell of summer weather which has made itself manifest in the reduced milk supply in this neighborhood was broken at midday yesterday by a steady, drizzling rain. In common with all other hydroelectric installations, that at Ivaponga has been experiencing a shortage of water. With yesterday’s fall and a promise of more, however, it is not anticipated that there will be any difficulty in maintaining a satisfactory temporary country service pending arrival of the new plant. The Bowling Club’s carnival, scheduled to end on May 6, is still in progress. The flags indicating the positions of the various nationalities give pride of place to England, with Ireland running well in second place. There is still time for those favouring the tartan flag to place it again in the premier position. A forlorn specimen of humanity drifted into the town with the rain yesterday. His appeal to a local resident for a shilling, meeting with a refusal, immediately turned to a threat to punch the resident’s head. 'Constable O’Donoghue’s timely appearance induced the wayfarer to continue his jouruey to Opunake. -At latest advice he is still walking.
