April 22, The Manawatu Pacing Club brought its autumn meeting to a close to-day. The morning broke dull, and eventually a light rain fell before the opening event, but cleared almost immediately. The racing was again good. Tvoauau, with W Bowden as rider, was selected as the best of good things for the Jvairanga Hurdles, the best backed of the others being Sot La no and Comedy Prince. The early running was made by Matu, Slump, and Master Peter, but after going half a mile Slump took charge from Matu, Eonmark, and Comedy Prince. Pacing to the hack straight, Master Peter went up to the lead, but five furlongs from home Comedy Prince raced to the lead, and at the straight entrance was attended bv Eonmark and Tvoauau. Over the final furlong, Comedy Prince ran on well to win nicely from Tvoauau, which just got up to beat Eonmark. Sottano, which jumped badly, was fourth. Quillftre, Edenhall, Vivo, and Great Day was the order of favouritism for the Lockwood Hack Handicap. When the barrier rose, Edenhall, from No. 1 position, failed to jump out, and Bonideer began well, to lead Great Day and Dobbin over the first two furlongs. AI the half-mile post llonideer was followed by Vivo, Dobbin, and Groat Day. At the straight entrance Bonideer had a good lead over Vivo, Great Day. Quillfire and Minstrel Boy. In the run up the straight Bonideer held her own and won by two lengths from Dobbin, with Gieafc Dav a neck away. Then followed Minstrel Boy and Sal a mis. A baker’s dozen went to the post for the Tamntete Cup, and of them H'ipo claimed most attention from bettors, but T'resham, Piuthair, Ngata, and Mask all came in for solid support. From an even despatch Hipo began best, and led out of the straight from Mask. Glenross, Zaragosa, and Degage Pacing up the back .stretch Zaragosa got to the front to lead Tresham. Imperial Spark, Hipo, and Glenross. As the field raced into the ‘draiehl there was little between Hipo, Tresham, and Imperial Spark, and over ihe concluding stages a good race eventuated, first Tresham and then Hipo. looking like winning, till Degage dashed up over the last halffurlong to win easilv from Hi no, which only heat Tresham by a small margin, with Imperial Spark close up fourth. Several of the runners for the Stonyhurst Welter earn® in for strong support. Kuplionium being; favourite from Polyphemus, Royal Diadem, and Star Area. As the lieldi raced into the straight Polyphemus drew clear and looked like winning easily, but Star Area, getting clear, made a brio late run and only failed to get Polyphemus. Euphonium was three lengths back in third place, and Tiega fourth. The bracketed pair Deluge and Motley was made a very warm favourite for the Manawatu Stakes, while next in order on the “tote” were Limerick and Seal own. When the tapes rose Limited began best from Deluge and Kiosk. At the four furlong post Limited led from Tukia, Deluge, Kiosk, and Seatowu. At the home turn Tukia was in charge from Kiosk and Deluge. Over tlie bnal stages Kiosk ran on well to beat Tukia, while the unlucky Seatown bnislied in third place. Peneus was fourth.

Elthein was a warm order for the Cioverlea Nursery, Magna Charta and Mr. Kern bail’s pair (.Hynanna and Hymgreat) being the only other runners considered. Magna Charta began best from Beth ami Elthein. Alter going a furlong Elthein took .second place and was on Magna Charta s quarters racing into the straight. Over cue last furlong a great race eventuated, Elthein just beating Magna Charta, with Hynanna and Hymgreat some lengths away. Of a useful hekl that contested the Borough Handicap, Merry Jest eounteu oil most admirers from Haiti, Areheen, Rational, and Killocra. Merry Jesi oegan best, but Standard headed her oil, with Kaiti and Killocra 1 olio wing.
