PERSONAL ITEMS.
At last evening’s quarterly meeting of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. Tv. F.vson was elected a member.
Mr. A. W. Wellstead, business agent of the> New Zealand Railways for Tara, naki, was in Hawera yesterday and attended the quarterly meeting of tlm Chamber of Commerce. One of the most , widely-known and experienced competitors at the Egmont Club’s dog trials, Mr. AV. V. Mclntyre, lias been selected to judge at the forthcoming trials at Mangamahu. M essrs L. E. Jackson and P. R. Brown, respectively president and secretary of the Ta kau-M atem ateaonga I)og Trial Club, were visitors at the Egmont trials yesterday.
The Governor-General and Cady Alice Ferguson left last evening by the Limited for Wellington. They were accompanied by Major and Mrs Haviland, who leave for England by the Rotorua to-day (says a Press Association message from Auckland). Messrs Geo. Stewart, of the Railway Publicity Department, and editor of the new Railway Journal, and R. Fenton, of the Government Publicity Department, are in Hawera to-day making preliminary arrangements for a comprehensive combined exhibit at the forthcoming Winter Show. Mr A W. Wellsted, railway commercial representative, is accompanying the gentlemen named and rendering assistance.
