SHEEP DOG TRIALS.

CONTINUATION OF MEETING. The Egmcnt Club’s .sheep dog trials at Taiporohenui were continued to-day under fine but cloudy weather conditions. The open heading and yarding competition, which commenced at midday yesterday, was completed before adjournment for luncheon, and resulted as follows: — Class 2. —Heading, bringing back, driving through one set of hurdles 9ft apart, and drive 50yds to .pen and yard. About 400 yards. Time allowance 15 minutes; total points, 60. — Mi M. Scott’s “Swift,” 59pts 1 J. H. Nairn’s “Swift,” 58 2 J. Lind’s “Myrt,” 57 0 0. J. Dunlop’s “Lad,” 55 T A. Doole’s “Toss,” 52 5 Judge’s Notes. Scott’s “Swift”. —Went- out to ‘left on good line; headed a little short; came on his sheep well and steady; goiod drive to first and. second hurdles; did very good work at yard. Nairn’s “Swift.” —Went out to right on straight line ; stood well in fCaflßrf his sheep; lifted a bit quickly; good line to Hags; good drive to hurdles. “Myrt.”—Started to left and stopped on the hill; headed well; lifted sheep steadily; pulled straight in good line; good work at hurdles and yard. ” “Lad.”—Went out to .'eft in good line ; stopped short on head ;,lifted well; pulled dog well behind sheep; good drive; fair work at yards. “Toss.” —Went out to left freely in good line; harked; lifted well; pulled well to flags; off line- to hurdles; got through first attempt; good drive to yard; slightly jerky in coming on his "sheep. Class 3, heading and bringing into ring, is being contested as we go to press. Speaking generally, this year’s trials have so far .proved an unqualified success, all officials performing their duties in a satisfactory, workman-like manner, thus making the competitors’ work seem more like an amusement. Probably the most elated official on the grounds is the .secretary, whose receipts on the opening day totalled over £BO. He anticipates a further appreciable vo 1 umo of “business” before the conclusion of the trials, and so place club’s finances on a sound basis. The standard of work performed by both competitors and dogs is, in many instances, of a high order, and the club is fortunate in numbering amongst its entrants such competitors as Messrs M. M. Scott, W. V. Mclntyre, It. H. Guthrie and EL Leahy, whose reputation as successful trial men is Domipionwide. Even though the luck o. the game go against them, the method' <*. these men in handling sheen and dogs are an invaluable adjunct to the training of young and less experienced triers. , . The exact weight of the sheep m the weight-judging competition was 101 Jlbs. Messrs J. It. "Corrigan (lOllbs) and L. Knowles (lo2Tbs) were nearest to 'the correct weight.
