Never before in the- history of international cricket has there been anything like the amazing scenes of welcome” to the Australians. Two hours before tlie train’s arrival the streets outsi-de Victoria station were thronged with patiently waiting people. When the cricketers were recognised there was a spontaneous burst of cheering. The crowd -soon broke clown the barriers, and! the cricketers, amidst a surging mass, made their way to the charabanc which conveyed them to the Hotel Cecil. An unofficial guard of honour, comprised of men from tne cruiser Melbourne, hielpecL a -strong force or mounted xiolice to keep the crowd back. —-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
