A vote of sympathy with Cr. M. W. Barker, in the Indisposition owing to which he is at present confined to hospital, and expressing hopes for his speedy recovery, was passed by the £l- - County Council at its monthly meeting to-day. At the age of 78 years, Mr. John Dick, a street workman of the Hawera Borough Council for the last eight years, has retired. This morning at the borough offices, his fellowemployees gathered to take leave of Mr. Dick, and to wish he and Mrs. Dick a happv and extended evening to their lives. 'The borough engineer (iMr. J. Sturrock), on behalf of the workmen, presented Mr. Dick with an Aimbrella and pipe for himself, and a teapot for his wife.
