Joynson Hicks, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, speaking at a luncheon of the Commercial. Motor Users’ Association, said that to-day was a time of great anxiety. A dense cloud was hanging over the, country. He believed tbe anxiety of the Cabinet Ministers to-day was greater than during the war, because then the ' whole nation was united, while there was today the prospect, lie might almost say, of war, a prospect of a grave difference of opinion, and possibly a disturbance. but’the nation was not united as regards the best means of obviating this terrible bomb. The greatest asset was the character of the Prime Minister, who was absolutely honest and would give a square deal. —Reuter.
. A DEADLOCK REACHED. MINERS’ OPINION! MR. BALDWIN CONTINUING NEGOTIATIONS. Recefvecl 1.20 p.m. to-day. LONDON, April 15. After sitting privately over an hour this morning, the executive of the Miners’ Federation met Mr. Baldwin and Sir A. H. Steel-Maitland at Downing Street at noon when it is understood the miners informed-the Prime Minister that in their view a deadlock had been reached. Mr. Baldwin undertook to get in touch with _ the Mining Association as soon as possible, and asked that the miners he available early next week for a- further discussion
