CROQUET.
CLOSING DAY AT PARK'CLUB Closing day was observed at the Park croquet lawns on Wednesday last. ' The weather being everything that could be desired, a most ehjoyable afternoon was spent by, all present. Quite a number of friends and visitors were present and progressive and golf croquet were played during the afternoon. Tea was provided by the club members. During the tea adjournment Mrs L A. Bone (president) welcomed the visitors and friends, and congratulated the club on its successful season. In the inter-club matches Park had warn six out of seven, a, creditable performance. $
In presenting the prizes, Mrs Bone remarked that competition for them meant a healthy rivalry, which was the spirit of real sportsmanship. The winners were as follows:
Handicap singles, Mrs J. W. Harding; handicap doubles, Mrs Godfrey and Mrs F. C. King; progressive tourney, Mrs B. C. Bennett and Mrs King; golf croquet, Miss Power, Mrs T. Tait, and Mrs King. On behalf of the members of the Hawera Croquet Club, Mrs Bilton returned thanks for the enjoyable afternoon they had all spent, and wished the club every success in the future.
Mr Townsend apologised for the absence of Mrs Townsend (vice-president! on account of ill health, and expressed the hope that the club would prosper. He stated the Borough Council would endeavour to assist the club wherever possible.
