RACIAL RIOTS
FIGHTING IN CALCUTTA. NOW UNDER CONTROL HINDU TEMPLE ATTACKED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. CALCUTTA, April 4. Street fighting continues, but the situation now seems to be under control. The military patrols were strengthened during the night, when, owing to incendiarism by the rioters, the fir'e brigade had 75 calls. Moslems made determined efforts to raid a big Hindu temple, and two actually entered the temple, where a Bengali boy cut one in twain with a sword kept' in the temple. It is impossible to estimate the casualties correctly, as many did not go to hospital, but it is stated that 23 people are dead, including an Indian policeman, and 48 injured have been admitted to hospital. A proclamation, has been issued which declares an assembly of more than five people unlawful.
