NURSERYMEN’S ASSOCIATION.

TARANAKI COUNCIL. AUTUMN .MEETING. The autumn meeting of the Taranaki council of the New Zealand Nurserymen’s Association was. held at Stratford during the week-end, representatives being present from all parts of the province. Mi- E. J. Morshead (New Plymouth) occupied the chair. 'l'lie secretary reported that the stocks on the whole throughout Taranaki were in an advanced condition, and an early planting season was expected . Arrangements were made to provide for the attendance of one or more of the members at each of the shows to be held in the various provincial centres. The forestry committee recommended that the forestry exhibits which attracted so much attention at the recent winter shows should be continued. The matter was referred to a committee # to arrange the filial details. The chairman said that the matter of advertising was an important one, and members would have an opportunity of considering the whole matter at a later date. The question was referred to a committee. Mr V. C. Davies stated that the conference in Dunedin to which he had been the delegate had been most successful. Ho confidently expected

that the next conference, to be held in Auckland early in next January, would be very largely attended and well organised. Mr G. A. Green (Dominion secretary) reviewed the work of the conference. lie said some important matters had been dealt with. These cluded the establishment of a New Zealand telegraph florists’ exchange. The new move, which should increase the interest in floral work, had alreadv a membership of over 40. The effort to establish a standard practice in the nursery trade had progressed a stage, and definite rules had been approved. These must make for a higher standard of service. The status committee was so well pleased with the progress being made by the Institute of Horticulture i,n their efforts to secure diplomas and a standard of education for horticulturists- that the conference decided to support the institute scheme. The conference of the institute which followed that of the nurserymen was also a great success. ,
