VISIT TO RAiIiiMEIRSTON NORTH

The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, and Lady Fergusson, _ who are paying their fii.su official visit to Palmerston North, arrived here on Saturday evening. They attended sendee at tiie Presbyterian Church yesterday morning. This morning they were taken on a tour of the borough by the Mayor and visited the Old People’s Home, West- End School, the Public Hospital, where their Excellencies chatted with patients. Addresses of welcome were given at each place called at, the Governor replying. This afternoon his Excellency will attend a. Rotary Club luncheon, which will be followed by a. civic reception, and then 'afternoon tea at the Mayor's residence. This evening his Excellency attends a Masonic function. PALMERSTON N., March 29. Following upon a busy morning visiting the Old People’s Home, the West End Primary School and the hospital, Their Excellencies, Sir Charles and Lady Fergusson, were the guests of the Rotary Club at a lunch. In returning thanks for the invitation, Sir Charles said that among Rotarians he found the same spirit of fellowship and all working for the same eud. Lord Jellicoe had t-old him that if he wanted any help in his duties he should go to Rotary. That was a fine thing to say, and be bad taken his predecessor’s advice. Subsequently Their Excellencies were accorded a civic reception in the Square, which was beflagged for the occasion. Long before three o’clock, when the function began, hundreds of jieople had secured all the vantage points. His Excellency spoke of the loyalty that everywhere was manifested by New Zealanders, and of the wonderful energy and initiative of the pioneers. The Scottish Society alsio tendered a welcome, •and an address to the boy scouts .and girl guides followed. Two officers. Major S. Jickell and Lieut. J. T. Slipper, were decorated in recognition of 20 years’ commissioned service. Their Excellencies were later the guests of the Mayor and Mayoress, and Sir Charles attended a Masonic function in the evening.
