Gillandens in various causes in the town and district, a. meeting was called ot leading townsmen to discuss the most fitting way in which, to show them that their work had been appreciated. There was a fair attendance and, on the motion of Mr. J. Ri. Corrigan, the Mayor (Mr. JS. A. Pacey) was voted to the chair. . , Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs It. Dixon, A. T Wills, J. E. Campbell, A. Lees, P. Bond, J. Goodwin, E. P. Beauchamp, W. Gilbert and Mander, all ot whom expressed their willingness lo assist in any way possible. lit was. resolved to hold a social evening and to make presentations in., iP Savoy Rooms on Wednesday, April i, and a general committee was set up to make arrangements. The committee con si sited of jYlessrs. S. O. Tonks (A., and P. Society), J. R. Corrigan. (Winter Show) E. A. Washer (Hospital Board), B. McCarthy (Riotary), Dixon (Chamber of Commerce), and W. G. ,Simpson (Scottish Society), and Mr. L. O. Hooker agreed to act as hen. secretary. Messrs. F l . W, Sutton, AV, G. Simpson and Page were deputed to arrange a short musical programme. The Mayor and Mr. J. R. Corrigan undertook to conduct a canvass for the presentation. The members' of the Women's National D.os<3rv<?- r 0 to I>o asked to do-co-rations, etc., for the rooms.
