STEAMER KANNA.
WITHDRAWAL SERIOUSLY AFFECTS TRADE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received noon to-dav. HOBART. March 29. The crew of the steamer Kanna, which is held up by the watersiders declaring it “black,” has been paid off. The withdrawal of the steamer from the Sydney-Hobart trade is having a serious effect on fruit-growers in the Huon district and the timber industry as well. As the Kanna is the only regular collier taking coal to Hobart, supplies are running low.
