There were five starters, including Te Monanui, The Night Patrol, with. Windbag lying handy, made the running to the entrance of the straight, where Windbag closed up and got a bead in front at the Leger. There was then a great finish, Windbag winning by half a length. COMM!ENTS ON THE GRAND NATIONAL. A fortnight ago Kenneth Mackay, heir to Lord Inchcape, sold Jack Horner, the winner of the Grand National, to Mr. C. Schwartz, a New York merchant, who had taken a violent fancy to steeplechasing and was determined, some day to win the Grand National. He gave £4OOO for Jack Horner, and an additional £2OOO conditional upon his winning the Grad National. Critics class it as in every way the best Grand National for many years, ft was a good race throughout.
