SOCIAL AND DANCE. Great preparations' are being made for the social and dance which is to be held in the Alanaia Town Hall on Easter Alonday night in aid of the Waimate Horticultural Society’s funds. The object is a most worthy one, and. should appeal to all. Everything of the best will be provided-—first-class orchestra, supper and floor. SCHOOL CONCERT.

In spite of the rough weather a large crowd gathered at the High School room to hear the concert given by the children last Friday evening. Before the closing of the concert, Mr Naiyn (headmaster) proposed a vote of thanks to the 'teachers, Misses Hillefe, Miss Simpson and Mr Allan, who were mainly responsible for the training of the performers, to the performers themselves for the energy they had displayed in training, and to the large audience for turning out in -such inclement weather. He also included Mr George White, the caretaker, mentioning the beautifully decorated archway over the stage with its coloured lights, making a fine setting , for the items as they crime forward, the work of Mr George White. The programme was as under:—Recitation, S. Me,Ronald; duM, Edna, and Wdliam Dakers; song, E. Davis; wand drill. High School girls; recitation, J. Mercer; dance, N. Forrester and M. Howel': drill. High School boys;"recitation, Miss A. Johnston; duet (song), Francis and Malcolm Walker; chorus, boys; recitation, N. Forrester: dances and songs, fairies and goblins ( NationalAnthem. After the concert supper was provided. Games were then participated in, and some good items were,-ren-dered bv the orchestra, comprising Messrs C. Abbott (pianist), G. White (covnetA, and G. White junr. (drums and: effects’). The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a delightful evening.
