ROSE’S. DEPARTURE. POSTPONED FOR A MONTH. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. I WELLINGTON, March 24. The Athletic Council has cancelled the departure for England next week of the champion runner, R. A. Rose, and has postponed it to April 13. Rose made his last appearance before on tour, but having travelled righ^^through from Christchurch, he was not in the best form, and he did not meet competitors of a high enough standard to extend him. POINTS PPTZE RESULTS. The Hawera Amateur Athlefic Club ’3 final meeting of the season was held on the show Hawera, yesterday afternoon and evening in fine but chilly weather. The track was in good condition, and with well handicapped fields the competitions proved interesting throughout and merited considerably greater support than that afforded by the comparatively poor attendance of spectators. It is safe to presume, however, that had weather conditions not been so chilly, the attendance would have been considerably larger. The programme was well conducted by the officials under the supervision of the popular secretary, Mr G. 11. Weir. Mr L. S. Clapham officiated as starter, Messrs J. Campbell 'and R Plank as judges, Mr F. Foden as timekeeper, and Mr R. Eoy as marksman. The field events competitions took place in the afternoon, commencing at five o’clock, and the remainder in the evening, starting .at eight o’clock. Principal interest centred in the re- ' suits of the points prize competitions, which, as the carnival was the last of the season, were decided at the conclusion. The Burdekin Cup, with .gold medal, for track events was won by M. Clark, tfie Athol Grant Cup, for field events, by A. Newall, and the Barnett Glass Cup, for cycling events, by C. Griffin.
