SADLY NEGLECTED

GRAVE OF EARL FRENCH.

IN VILLAGE CHURCHYARD NO DISTINGUISHING MARK. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 10.32 a.m. to-day. LONDON, March 23. . The Daily Chronicle says: “lip, the quiet village of Rapple, Kent, is an insignificant grass-covered mound, surmounted ,by a few withered leafless twigs. This sadly-neglected spot is no other than the grave of'Field-Marshal Sir 1 John French, Eari of Ypres, the commander of the ‘Contemptibles. ’ The Chronicle points out that hundreds visit the churchyard weekly,. yet are unable to find the grave without the aid of the sexton. It recalls the funeral, which was attended by great crowds of civilians and military representatives. Now a .few feet- of turf, sinking at one end, is the only indication* of the resting-place of one. of England’s greatest warriors.—A. and N.Z. Assn.
