' THE VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. VICTORIA WISHES TO MEET NEW ZEALANDERS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIoni’. Received 11.40 a.m. To-day. SYDNEY, March 6. The New Zealand tennis team, which will arrive in Sydney on March 23, plays its first match at Katoomba on the 27th, and visits the Jenolan Caves the following day. The Victorian Association is anxious to secure a visit from the New Zealanders, and has offered the visitors two-thirds’ of the net proceeds from matches played if New Zealand visits Victoiia. • The southern State is not prepared to meet the New Zealanders in Sydney. NORTH PLAYS SOUTH MANY FINE DISPLAYS. The tennis teams chosen to represent North and South Taranaki, twelve men a side, met at the Hawera Club’s courts to-day. The weather was perfect and the courts in good order. Doubles were played in the morning and singles in the afternoon. In the former North had matters very much their own way and scored five matches to one by South. Results until The Star went to press were as follow (North mentioned first): DOUBLES. Webster and Wilson beat Jones and Torrens 6 —o, 6—l. Grant and Berg beat Wills and Wills rj 5 g Wagstaff and Johnson beat Wybourne and Hawken 6—2, 6 —l. Malfroy and Curtis lost to Kururangi and Whitehead 6—3, 9—7. King and Harley beat Smith, and Caplen 6—3, 11—9. Boon and McClune beat Collins ana / Meuli 6—l, 6—3. Totals: North five matches, 10 sets, 76 games; South one match, two sets, 44 games. SINGLES. Grant beat H. Wills 6 —4, 6—o. Webster beat G. Wills 6—3, G—4. Grant beat H. Wills fh—4, 6—o. Berg beat Jones 3—6, 6—4, 6—2. Johnson beat Wybourne 6—3, 6—2. Wagstaff beat Collins 6—4, 7—5. King lost to Meuli 5 —7, 2—6. Boon beat Smith G—4, 6^2.
