FIREMEN’S DEMONSTRATION.
MANUAL SHIELD WON. SUBSTANTIAL HOLD ON CHAMPIONSHIP. (Special to Tne Star.) DUNEDIN, March 5. Of eight events which have "been completed at the United Fire Brigades’ Demonstration, Hawera has won four, come second in two and been placed fourth in the other two. The team has won the Manual Shield, is well in the lead for the High Pressure Shield, and has a five to two majority in points over its nearest competitor for the Championship Shield. To-day’s results were: — THREE MEN EVENT. Hawera, 51see 1 Hokitika, 54sec .......... 2 Greymouth r t Stratford ......... t Thames 5, Addington Railway 6. FIVE MEN (MODERN) - . Hastings and Sumner decided to divide fifth and sixth prize money and, on a toss, Hastings won the odd half point (44 to 4) for the championship.
