SAFE AT THE CHATHAMS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) INVERCARIG ILL, March 5. Tho anxiety regarding the welfare of the schooner France, -which left Akaroa on February 3 for -Stewart Island and did -not reach there, i<s removed by news received to-night that the vessel is safe. A radio message has been received -by tlie Minister for Marine (Hon. G. J. Anderson) from the Chatham. Islands stating that the France has arrived at Pitt Island. She was prevented by gales' from reaching .'Stewart Island. She is proceeding shortly to Waitangi and thence to Auckland. WELLINGTON, March 6. The following message has been received by the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department from the Chatham Islands: “The overdue schooner France has reached Litt Island. Gales off shore prevented her reaching Stewart Island. She is proceeding south to East Island and Forty-fours Island, then calling at Waitangi, en route to Auckland.”

Financed by a United States millionaire, the France is engaged in the collection of bird specimens for the American Museum of Natural' History.
