ELIMINATING ROUND.S

A very keen spirit of interest has been displayed in the tournament arranged to decide the first holders of the handsome cup generously donated by Mrs. J. E. Campbell, for the South Taranaki club croquet championship. There was an excellent attendance yesterday, and all followed the play very closely. There is no doubt the competition will serve to foster the game, specially among the clubs of the outlying district®. Twelve teams wei-e entered, comprising practically all the clubs of South Taranaki, and many good contests were witnessed yesterday. Some of the matcher were very easily won, but two were very close. The results of the,first two rounds left the two Eiltham teams, Hawera I. and Manaia as the semi-finalists. Efltham I. beat Eltham 11. and Hawei-a beat [Manaia, and this made the final between Hawer a I. and Eltham 1. to be played to-day. The very keenest interest is shown in, the meeting of these teams. Their personnel is as follows: Eltham.l., Mmes. Carman, Fountaine, Drayton, McKay. Hawera 1., Mmes. Suisted, Bennett, • Bull and Miss Power. The results yesterday were as below: SECOND ROUND. Manaia 52 v. Park 16. Hawera I. 52 v. Hawera IT. 39. Eiltham IT. 52 v. Okaiawa. 13. , Eltham I. 47 v. Patea 32. SEME FINAL. E’itlia-m I. 41 y. Eltbam XI. 28. Hawera X. 41 v. Manaia 37. TO-DAY’S PLAY.
