He left this afternoon en route to Stratford and New Plymouth. A London cable message announces that Admiral Sir William Pakenham lias retired, and that Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Keyes lias been promoted l admiral. Mr E. Bold, senior land purchase officer of the Publie Works Department, who, for the last twenty years, has been exclusively engaged in the settlement of land compensation claims arising out of the Government’s activities throughout the Dominion, lias been granted extended leave of absence for recuperation, and will leave New, Zealand next month on a visit to the Old Country (telegraphs our Wellington correspondent).
