“CUT AND DRIED PLANS.”

M.C.C. SECRETARY’S DENIAL

Received Feb. 25, 12.5 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 24. That he did not believe a word of it, and thought it calculated to stir up feeling, and that it was mischievous, were the comments of Mr F. E. Lacey, secretary of the M.C.C., when he was shown a sensational evening paper article purporting to disclose cut and dried plans for tomorrow’s M.C.C. meeting, at whjch tbe five test selectors and the captain will be appointed. The article criticised the authorities, first for the fact that, if the proposed nlans were carried, Gilligan would b e the only member of the committee with Australian experience; secondly, because not one of the great English professionals would have a place, the strings having been pulled against the co-option of Hobbs and Rhodes; and. thirdly, because several amateurs with vast experience would he passed over. Mr Lacey added that he would surely have known if any such arrangement had been made. He could not believe it had been done without his knowledge. He understood one member of the Board of Control would like to pronose the name of a very famous professional.
