NORMANBY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) • HORTICULTURAL STCIETY. At, a meeting held on Tuesday night there was a good attendance of members of the Normanbv Horticultural Society's committee. Mr. B. C. Gibson presided. The secretary of the Normanbv Committee wrote thanking the for having placed its hall at the disposal of the committee on the occasion of the annual picnic. The morning being wet, this was much appreciated. He also intimated that the scholars were to be granted a whole holiday on the second day of the show. It was decided to take out an accident insurance policy for both show days. The silver cup donated by Mr. G. H. Buckeridge is to be given as a points prize in the garden section Mrs. Clements donated 5s for the best family cake and 5s for the best collection of fuchsias, and Mr. B. Clements donated 5s for the best New Era potatoes and 5s for the heaviest pumpkin. Considerable interest is being shown in the Highland dancing and piping events, six medals being donated at the meeting by the following gentlemen: Mr. A. .1. Hoprroft (2). Mr. B. C Gibson (2), Mr. C. Franklyn (I) and Rev. Mr. Fletcher (I). It was decided that the first working bee he held on Wednesday night. A tug-of-war is also to be added to the programme to take place on the second afternoon of the show, for teams of five men a-side, the event to he a sweepstake of £1 5s per team.
