NORTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT
MRS. WATKINS OPEN CHAMPION

NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 25. The North Island open croquet championship was concluded here yesterday, the winner being Mrs. C. Watkins, of Hawke’s Bay, who defeated the former champion, Mrs. Tiffen (also of Hawke’s Bay), after an exciting match. Mrs. Watkins played excellent croquet, her shots being very consistent, but Mrs. Tiffen was hardly at her best. The final of the ladies’ championship was played between Mrs. Tiffen and Mrs. Pitcaithley. and was won by the latter in two games, 26—13 and 26—23. Details were: NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. (Two out of Three Games.)
Semi-final. —Mrs. Tiffen, 26, 9, 26, defeated Mrs. Kibblewhite, 18, 26, 22. Final. —Mrs. Watkins, 26, 26, defeated Mrs. Tiffen, 6, 14. LADIES’ OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. (Two out of Three Games.)
Final.—Mrs. Pitcaithley, 26, 26, defeated Airs. Tiffen, 13, 23.
At the conclusion of play the prizes were presented as follows: North Island Open Championship (cup and replica). —Mrs. C. Watkins. Runner-up: Airs. Tiffen. Championship Doubles (cup and replica). —Airs. C. Watkins and Air. Stratton (Hawke’s Bay). Runners-up: Airs Gambrill and Air. Laurie.
Ladies’ Open Championship (cup and replica). —Airs. Pitcaithley. Runnerup: Airs. Tiffen. Handicap Singles.—Airs. Stone. Runner-up: Air. Stratton Handicap Doubles. —Airs. Kibblewhite and Airs. Bartlett. Runners-up: Mrs. Cook and Air. Lawrie. On behalf of the competitors. Airs. Tiffen made a presentation of a handsome silver teapot to the manager.of the tournament, Airs. D. K. Morrison, and a gift to Airs." A. G. Johnson, who managed the afternoon tea.
