BRASS BAND CONTEST.
“A” TESTS BEGIN. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Feb. 24. The Dominion band contest was continued to-day, when the baritone solo was decided in the afternoon and the “A” grade first test in the evening. The ' baritone solo resulted : Alex. Ramsay (Queen Alexandra’s Own, Wanganui), 88 points, 1; R. Boyd (Wanagnui Garrison), 8 points, 2; H. Driver (Wellington Tramways), 85 points, and R. C. Brundall (Woolston), 85 points, 3. Also competed: G. Forbes (Dannevirke), 76; A. Harbott (Kaikorai), 80; E. Stent (Greymouth), 75; S. Hignan (Dunedin Artillery), 80; W. Nelson (Dunedin Artillery), 82; T. Lamb (Roxburgh), 63; D. Stribling (Christchurch Municipal), 72; C. Smith (South Canterbury Battalion), 75; L. D. Porter (Ashburton), 70; J. U. Grant (Port Nicholson), 72; AV. Munro (Auckland Artillery), 84. In the first “A” grade test 12 bands faced the judge (Mr F. J. Ricketts). No points will be announced till Friday evening. This evening’s placings were: Wanganui Garrison 1, Woolston and St. Kilda. (equal) 2, .Wellington Tramways 4, Port Nicholson 5, Queen Alexandra’s Own 6, Kaikorai 7, Dunedin Artillery 8, Palmerston North 9, Auckland Artillery 10, Christchurch Municipal 11, Ist Battalion Invercargill 12.
