OPERATIONS AT BROKEN HILL AFFECTED. MINES MAY CLOSE DOWN. BY CABLE—PRE3S ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Feb. 19, 11.40 a.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 19. The Department of Mines has receiyfed a communication from Broken Hill to the effect that the mines will be compelled to close down on tbe 27th February through lack of water. Arrangements have been made to keep as many men employed at work as possible. Fo,r some time the Railway Department has been carrying water to Broken Hill, but it is not sufficient to keep the mines going.
