MOTOR CYCLE SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING. The annual racing fixture of the Hawera Motor Cycle Club, which was held yesterday, was again a successful venture, the racing being of a high standard and the attendance being practically the same as last year, which was a record. There were no accidents to mar the day, and with ideal weather patrons were able to enjoy a good day’s sport. The big race of the programme, the President’s Handicap, was won by H. Moller, who won the same race on a previous occasion, while P. Coleman won the classic event in which the Dominion’s seven best riders competed. In all the main events Coleman was lapping consistently in 50 seconds, representing a speed of 72 miles per hour. On a light-weight machine H. Herbert won two races and ran fourth in the President’s Handicap, thereby securing the largest share of the prize money, £3O. P. Coleman was the next on the prize list with £26, and H. Moller third with £25.

The course was in good order, thanks to the attention given it by the caretaker, Mr A. Morse. while the energetic secretary. Mr W. G. Walkley, and the officials carried out their duties in a creditable manner. The lap hoard invented by Mr W. W. Davy, and used most successfully last season, was again of great assistance to patrons in following the progress of "the various races. Mr Davy also tried out for the first time an invention of his own. which recorded the time taken by each rider in every lap. The experiment nroved a great success, and although the invention is still in its initial it nrovides a definite System upon which handicaps can be worked out. Motor cycling certainly owes a good deal to Mr Davy. Details of the races are as follow : PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, 12 laps, about 12 miles; open to any machine.
