HAWEBA MEN’S CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. RETURNING TO FAIRFIELD LINES. Quite the best and most enthusiastic meeting held by the Hawexa Men’s Club for a long time was that of the annual general meeting which took place last night in the Borough Chambers. There were about fifty members present, and Mr E. C. Fletcher, president, was in the chair,.
The secretary (Mr N. Caplen) read the annual report and balance-sheet, which, on the motion o£ the chairman, were adopted.
The as below: Your committee present their annual report and balance-sheet for the past year. There is a loss on the year of £299 9s 6d, which should be reduced by £22 16s lOd since received from the Ladies’ Club, leaving a balance of £276 13s 6d. After writing off our assets for loss on sale of the club house, £250, and bad debts £42 10s 6d, we show a profit on the year’s working of £ls 17s. The social side of the club suffered through not having a club-house, and on this account many of our usual interclub matches were cancelled); also we lost about £ll in locker, fees and about £l6 in green fees partly through the same cause. Owing to the time taken in getting the new links into playing order it was late before we were able to open the season; however, we extended the closing day to November 30, and as the links were then in splendid order a number availed themselves of the summer subscription of 10s to play on until the end of January. We .have to congratulate Mr Beechey in winning the club’s championship, especially as he had to meet Mr Leo Quin, ex-N.Z. champion, and his brother. Mr Vinnicomhe is also to be congratulated in winning the junior championship. The thanks of the club are due to Mrs Douglas for so generously assisting us on many occasions in providing refreshments, to Mr Billington, caretaker, for so ably’carrying out his duties; also to the Ladies’ Olub for their loyal support and assistance, and to Mr" Suisted, lion, auditor. Our lease of playing rights over the course expires in April, and we understand a proposition will be put before you by Mr. Salmon to return to the Fairfield course. The balance-sheet showed the principal items of revenue as follows: Subscriptions, men £3lO, ladies £llO 16s 6d; interest, £l7 17s 6d; green fees, etc., £lO 12s 3d. Expenditure included rent £IOO, wages £266 19s, loss on building £250, golf council £l3 6s 6d, secretary £2O, advertising £5 17s, tini* her £6 12s, ironmongery £8 14s 10d, carting £9 l’2s 6d, prizes £3 8s 6d, sundries £64 5s sd. , The assets shown were: uanir, £462 Os lOd; art union, £35 16s 8d; buildings and plant, £126 17s 6d. Liabilities were: Creditor, £SO; Bank of Australasia, £3O 2s 6d.

The terms offered, by the Tonks ’ Estate were for a four years’ lease; £125 for the first year, and £l5O for the remaining three years. The conditions re playing rights are to be the same as for the other course at Turuturu Road, and the lease is to be drawn as from June 1, but the cluo mav play at once. The house and L, acres are to be reserved for the club. It was added that the lockers had been stored and could be put in at once. After a little discussion it was unanimously resolved to recommend to the incoming committee that it accept the proposition made by Mr Tonks. SUBSCRIPTION. There was a good deal of discussion on the matter of the subscription, and eventually it was- resolved that, as the cost of running the course would probably be £SO less than hist year, the subscription be as before: Full members, £4 14s od, reducible to £4 4s if paid before May 3.L; first year members, £1 Is; country members and those under 21 vears. £2 2s.
