The up-to-date reinforced concrete building which has been under erection hd Stratford for Mr. K. CS. (Jook, polk lit-teller, of Hawera and Stratford, furs just been completed and it embodies ah the latest conveniences and machinery (or the manufacture ol small goods. Since all of Lhc .small goou* lor the Hawera. brand) are now manufactured in the new premise*, a-descrip-tion will lie ot interest to Hawera housewives. . . Ai feature oi the building is the absence of awkward corners, for in every case corners have been eliminated anil joins rounded off, thus doing away with harbouring-places lor dust. Throughout, the building has been designed with a view to the utmost cleanlines* of foodstulfs, and everything is in compliance with the latest health regulations. The shop and factory aie well ventilated with ceiling ventilators and gauze doors and a cool draught is continually blowing through the factory In the direct line of this draught the meat is hung and its freshness is thus assured. . The shop is particularly pleasing and, with white walls and ceiling, presents a spotlessly clean appearance. there i* ample window space and goods are temptingly displayed on three marble tiers. In tbe shop are the latest weighing machine and ham slicer, and everything i* arranged to facilitate' handling and choice of good*. Immediately in. the rear of the .shop is the factory', fitted out with all the latest appliances, each plant being provided with a separate electric motor. The freezer, which is constructed of brick and concrete, is seven feet square and the walls are 14 inches thick and is fitted with a dual cooling plant, comprising pipes for rapid cooling and a special cooling tank which maintains a standard temperature. The freezer is capable of turning out one and a-half tons of ice in twenty-four hours. Other machines such as mincing, sausage and filling machines are also installed and dispense with the old method of human handling. There is no firing in the Factory, blit steam heat for cooking purposes is generated by a boiler fully detached from the building. An important feature of the building i.s the provision of concrete flooring and drains throughout, thus permitting Hie whole premises. including the freezer, being liose.l nut at will. There .is no doubt that Mr. Cook has now one of the most up-to-date and sanitary plants in this trade in Taranaki.
