RIVERLEA.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the Riverlea School Committee there were present: Messrs. B. L. Webby ((‘hairman), D. McLeod (secretary), W. W. Lonsdale, J. Stables and M. F. Voullaire. The Taranaki Education Board wrote re porches required over doors, and enclosing estimate of cost, showing the committee’s probable liability to be about £lB. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Lonsdale, seconded by Mr. Voullaire, that the money required be raised as soon as possible and subsidy applied for. The matter of holding the annual picnic was discussed at length, and it was resolved to hold same at Opunake beach on Saturday, February 27, and that, two lorries be. engaged, one for the pupils and one for adults, the fare for adults to be 2s (id return.

At a special meeting of the committee held on a later date, the chairman reported that he had interviewed the secretary of the Education Board and also the board \s . architect, Mr. Moore, with regard to the work on the porches and the new gates, and as a result had obtained some necessary information which would enable the committee to have shingle ready when the board's builders were ready to commence work, which would not be very Jong now. THE WEATHER. The weather continues very unseasonable. To date there have only been two dry days during the month, and they have not been very good ones. With the generous rainfall we have had we hoped for goml grass growth, but 'unfortunately our “hereditary enemy’’ General Westerly Gales is again raiding the country and destroying the benefit we might otherwise have from the visi". of General Rains. Somehow we seldom get the latter without a blasting, and “blasted," invasion of the former following on.
