NEW POLICY OF TREATMENT OUTLINED. , .. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) BLENHEIM, Feb. 12. Speaking at a civic reception to-day, the Hon. J. A. Young, the new Minister for Health, took the opportunity to outline a new progressive policy in the treatent of mental cases. Mr Young said he had given the matter deep consideration with his advisers and experts, and these points of a progressive policy had been decided on as follow: — , /, (a) To afford the fullest opportunity for i>ersons in a state of nervous and mental instability to obtain early and reliable advice so as to facilitate prompt recognition and suitable treatment in the incipient stages of a mental breakdown. (b) To ensure the provision and use of improved methods of handling and dealing with mental cases prior to and at the time of committal as insane, and to do away with temporary lodgment in prison pending a decision. (e) To ensure provision and better use of the facilities for classification, care and treatment, especially in the case of more recent, impressionable, sensitive and incurable patients.
