PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mns. O. Straehan, of Hawera, will leave to-morrow for an extended, trip of the South Island and the Dunedin Exhibition. Mr Dwyer, of Kakaramea, who was injured in a motor car accident -at Mangatoki and who was taken to the Hawera. Hospital, is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Mir S. A. Chisholm, auctioneer at the Strtaford branch of the Farmers’ Co-op. Organisation Society, has been transferred on promotion to Hawera. On Saturday evening the staff of the company met Mr Chisholm, and presented him. with a gold pencil as a mark of the esteem in which he was held. The presentation was made by' Mr J. G. Nieliol (says the Pest). About three hundred people assembled at the Town Hall on Monday night to do honour to the Rev. Father Hilly, who, after two and a half years’ service in Stratford has been transferred to Master ton, says the Post. The audience was not only of Catholics who had come to say farewell to their priest, but included many friends belonging to other denominations. There Were visitors from various parts of the province, and also present were the Dean of Taranaki (Very Rev. Monsignor Power, of Hawera), and the Rev. Father Lynch, of New Plymouth. Mr A. Coleman presided, and during the" evening the guest was presented with a wallet of notes from the parishioners and friends, a gold-mounted fountain pen and gold pencil from the Children of Mary, a wallet and cheque from the Hibernian Lodge, and a dressing case from the altar boys.
