ATHLETICS.

■ROSE AND HAHN TO MEET TO-DAY. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) MASTER-TON, Eeb. 5. The American athletes, Seliolz and Hahn, spent this afternoon at training. The work of Hahn was of special interest to the large gathering of spectators in view of his first match with Bose to-morrow. Drizzling rain fell during the afternoon, but the track had become baked with continued dry weather, and unless very heavy rain falls during the night it is not likely to be affected to any extent. Both Rose and Hahn, who spent the day together, are reticent to discuss tomorrow \s battle, and evade questions by eulogising each other’s performances. Hahn says lus form could be better, and he thinks he will be striding at his best during the South Island tour. Rose has had a hurried preparation owing to pressure of work on his farm, so on the score of physical fitness the conditions are about eqpal.
