EGMONT RACES.

MEETING SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED. SURVEYOR WINS TONES’ STAKES. L’O'UMA THE WAHVIATE HANDICAP If the Egmont Racing Club bad. been favoured with, fine weather for tiie first day ol their summer meeting, there is no doubt- that, with such good neids engaged, its venture this year would have been equally as success!a: as unit of last year. Cate receipts and totalisator investments lor the opening day 'showed a substantial decrease when compared witn tne figures lor the first day of last year, hut on cue second day 1 , with hue weather to assist in making the day’s outing pleasant, the gate receipts and totalisator figures practically held tneir own against the figures of the second nay of the 1925 summer meeting, the totaliastor investment s only fading short by £l9 10s. Yesterdays £27,986 10s was handled on the totalisator, as compared with £28,006 on the s. nd day of the 1925 meeting. _ For the two days the total was £53,872 10s, as against £55,749 last year—a decrease of £1876 10s. A good class of horses contested the various events, and throughout the meeting the racing was excellent. Close finishes were the order, and the judge, Air W. P. Russell, had some remarkably" difficult propositions ’ pon which to give his decision. The finish of every race yesterday" was close. The opening event, the hurdles, icsuited in a dead heat for first ]> ace, while in the Electric Handicap another dead heat for fir-st was run, with the third horse only a nos e away. In the last race the winner only obtained the verdict by" a nose. In .spite of such phenomenal finishes, the numbers tvere hoisted promptly and correctly. There was no fault to find with tne starting, all the fields being got away well by Mr C. O’Connor. The "management of the meeting left nothing to be desired, and reflected great credit on the acting-secretary, (Mr E. P. Cox), the president (Mr J. Gray;, and the club officials. All races were run up to time. The Hawera Municipal Band was again in attendance and enlivened proceedings with a pleasing musical programme.
