SPORTS FOR BOYS
IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. PRESENT SYSTEM CRITICISED. A PLEA FOE REFORM BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION - COPYRIGHTReceivctl Feb. 5, 10.20 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 4. "The idea of sporting prizes is pernicious and is causing a spirit of commercialism to creep in,” declared Commander Coote, superintendent of the Duke of York’s summer camp. "Cricket, football and other games at present conducted in 'public schools do not. make for a Christian type of character. The athletes to-day aim at record-breaking, not. caring whether they win by fair or foul means. It is easier for a' boy to go astray when educated at a boarding school than when under his parents ’ supervision. We should reform sports and make the games a training ground for Christian principles.”—Sydney Sun Cable.
