A new schoolmaster, on arriving by motor-car at Kilkee, County Clare, found the road barricaded by residents, who resented his appointment. They smashed the windscreen and assaulted the. teacher’s mother. The civic guard, with batons, charged charged the crowd and revolver shots were (exchanged. Later the school door, which had been padlocked, to prewilt the teacher’s entrance, had to be burst.
