HAWKE CITP. WON BY WANGANUI. It will have been of interest to Taranaki players to the result of the Hawke Cup match between Wanganui and Nelson, in which Wanganui won by five wickets. Taranaki played and were beaten bv Wanganui in a pre'iminary match, and wil> therefore have been keenly interested in watching their fortunes at Nelson, and will join in congratulations to them. Nelson have held the cup quite a long time, and it wi 1 1 be good to see it go round. Tbe competition will be all the keener in the future.
COACH FOB NEW ZEALAND
The news cabled yesterday that Maurice Tate will come to New Zealand to coach in nlace of Board: is good reading for al l interested in the game. Tate is England’s outstanding bowler, ami his advent should help the cause of cricket very materially. If Ntew Zealand can secure such good men and keen them for a time, there must be a decided improvement in tbe general standard of play.
