SOUTH TARANAKI ASSOCIATION

The good work done by the South Taranaki Association has been widely acknowledged, and it was stressed ,by the record shown at the last meeting of the executive. • If only the work of “road signing” were considered this would have more than justified the existence of the association, and the value of that work has been acknowledged far and wide by touring motorists. The idea of naming roads and bridges and “distancing” them from' the towns next to them, either backward or forward. is an excellent scheme and of much interest and value. In addition are the danger signs for bad turns and crossings. This has worked to aid the good roads of Taranaki in making the province better and more favourably known throughout the Dominion, ‘it must have a very good and strong influence. But the association is out also to make, every possible move for the benefit of motorists, and keeps .in touch with everything that is being done by the large centres, and has the advantage, too, of being in good repute with the head office in Wellington, which recognises the good, work done and is always- most generous in its assistance. The value of the work of the executive, and of the branches throughout South Taranaki is shown by tlie ever-increasing number of members enrolling. More badges have had to he ordered, and it is expected the total membership will he 400 .by the end o fthe financial year. It is actually a fine record of work done in a comparatively short time. Although the association was registered hack in 1914, the war and other causes prevented its functioning to any extent until a year ago. and what lias- been done has been all the work of that short time.

The advice of the head office in Wellington to “step on the accelerator” for 1926 is being acted upon in good style .and the prospects are for nn excellent year’s work.
